As the owner of the business, it fell to Andrew to take the first cruise and test it out so we can start actively promoting it to our new customers.

Andrew and his family chose the mini-cruise to Santander. The thought of sharing a 4-berth cabin with two teenagers was too much to bear so the family paid the supplements and had two 2-berth cabins or couchettes. While practical and comfortable they are very small and would not be suitable for the less agile. Our advice would be opt for the upgraded 2 berth and try for a window cabin.

The trip from London to the ferry at Plymouth was easy, and good pay-and-display parking is available right next to the port, for those not wishing take their cars.

Whilst the ferry departs at 4pm you are welcome to board from 2.30pm giving you time to settle into your cabin and start exploring the delights on board of Pont-Aven.

When sailing don’t forget to look out for the curious and mysterious Drake Island, with it’s ghostly abandonded prison. The small pool was closed due to bad weather but there was plenty of opportunity to sit out on the Heli-deck, duty free shopping , or the choice of games rooms.

The evening entertainment and food was certainly the highlight of the trip. There is a choice of restaurants but the more up-market Le Flora, for which you need to book, is certainly worth the little extra spend. An absolute feast of a buffet offering Spanish and English dishes and excellent service. During the summer months there is evening entertainment on board. “Gameshow Greats” was both to fun to take part in and watch. The two teenagers chose to escape from the parents and any potential embarrassment and hide in the cinema. Andrew and his wife took part in a version of the Generation Game and came away the winners with £500 worth of prizes including a free crossing!

Breakfast the following morning was again another gourmet extravaganza, having opted for the “posh restaurant”. At £9.00 per person, certainly worth it.

On arrival at Santander, many of the guests chose to make the trip to the beach but to be fair, time is short so everyone opted for some sightseeing and shopping and Tapas for lunch in the main square. If you do wish to make more of a holiday of it, we suggest extending your stay for a few days and booking a hotel.

The return journey was much the same with more on board shopping, bingo in the evening and catching up on sleep.

All in all, a great time was had by all. The trip is a mini cruise, a break in the routine and something a bit different. Next stop, St Malo….

Everyone booking a removal with Amber Moves can take advantage of the Cruise Promotioin, paying only £19.50 per person, based on 4 people sharing a 4 berth cabin. There are two other cruise breaks to choose from, namely Le Break (Roscoff, Cherbourg or St Malo) or Cruise and Dine to St Malo.
